Artist Statement

Dagmar Pouwelse (1997, NL) is an artist working with textiles, photography, installation and sculpture.

Working with materials found in places such as containers and thrift stores, as well as (online) found footage, she embraces an experimental working process with room for unconventional use of material – like textiles combined with mortar, or plaster tiles to construct an image. This particular working method adds to the fragmentary characteristics of her work, leaving an imprint of ilusiveness and curiosity.

Her work examines the traces left behind by time, use, or neglect, in which both vulnerability and resilience resonate. These traces mark a past while simultaneously opening space for transformation. Pouwelse seeks out moments of transition, when environments or objects release their old identity and enter a state of becoming — a space where absence and presence meet, and meaning remains in motion.
